Johann Samuel Beyer

Johann Samuel Beyer (* 1669 in Gotha ; † May 9, 1744 in Karlsbad ) was a German cantor and composer .

Life

Beyer initially worked as a private music teacher in Jena. Thanks to excellent certificates, he succeeded Johann Habermas in Weißenfels as cantor in 1694 . In 1699 he applied for the vacant cantor's office in Freiberg and after an examination was finally appointed Freiberg cantor and music director on August 28, 1699 from among 12 applicants . In this activity he tested the small organ there, which was built by Gottfried Silbermann for the Freiberg Hospital Church (Johanniskirche) between 1718 and 1719 . Johann Friedrich Doles was Beyer's successor.

Beyer also worked as a so-called music writer.
