Johann Samuel Luppe
Johann Samuel Luppe (also Latinized Luppius ; born January 8, 1685 in Delitzsch ; † April 4, 1742 ibid) was a German Protestant theologian and superintendent of Jessen (Elster) . He is best known for his numerous theological writings, especially Theophaneias veterum .
Life
Johann Samuel Luppe was born in Delitzsch as the son of the citizen Johann Gottfried Luppe and his wife Maria Luppe (née Kopf). After a school education in Schulpforta he went to the University of Wittenberg in 1704 , where he studied theology and philosophy until 1721 . As early as 1706, however, he began to do his doctorate and was appointed Magister legens in 1708, in 1712 as an adjunct of the philosophical faculty, and in 1713 as a candidate for theology. In 1718 he served as dean of the philosophical faculty. In 1720 he took up a pastor's position in Apollensdorf , only to be appointed superintendent of Jessen in 1722.
In 1732 he was named Disp. inaugur. de sanguine Iesu Christi , but a little later he was temporarily prevented from performing his duties by a minor stroke. Luppe died in Delitzsch, his native town in 1742 .
family
Johann Samuel Luppe came from the old Delitzsch patrician family Luppe. His relatives held the office of mayor several times. The Leipzig upper town clerk Gregorius Luppe II (1562–1636) was his great-grandfather, the publisher Andreas Luppius his uncle. Many of his relatives were also theologians, such as his grandfather Gregorius Luppe III (1612–1677), who was pastor in Groß-Kyhna, as well as his uncle Gregorius Luppe IV (1646–1728) as pastor in Brachstedt.
His marriage to the pastor's widow Anna Elisabeth Schwenn (née Richter) in Wittenberg in 1719 remained childless.
