Johann Siegmund Strebel (born September 14, 1700 in Memmelsdorf ; † June 11, 1764 in Ansbach ) was a German librarian and administrative clerk.

In 1717 Strebel began to study law at the University of Jena and after a while switched to the same subject at the University of Halle . In 1720 he broke off his studies without a degree and returned to Franconia .

Through the mediation of friends, Strebel came to Ansbach as court master in the household of Minister Christoph Friedrich von Seckendorff in 1723 . There Strebel made the acquaintance of Christiane Charlotte von Württemberg-Winnental , who hired him in 1727 as a preceptor for her son Karl Wilhelm Friedrich .

When Margrave Wilhelm Friedrich died in 1729, his son took over the reign of the Principality of Ansbach . One of the first official acts of Karl Friedrich Wilhelm was the appointment of Strebel to the judiciary and appointment to the court librarian . Strebel was more involved in the administration of the court than in the court library; he reorganized the archives of the Ansbach court administration and brought the administration up to date.

In 1732 Strebel became a secret archivist and in 1755 a secret councilor . Strebel reached the high point of his career in 1757 when he was appointed to the Privy Council .

In addition to his official duties, Strebel also found time to try his hand at writing a history in Franconia. Around 1763 he retired into private life and died at the age of 63 on June 11, 1764 in Ansbach.
