Johann Theodor Freiherr von Natorp (* 30th November 1777 in Altenbeken ; † 30th July 1830 in Paderborn ) was a German architect of classicism .

Life

From 1819 to 1830 he initially worked as a master builder, and finally as senior building officer in the Principality of Lippe . His predecessor was Wilhelm Tappe from 1813 to 1818 , his successor was the building officer Ferdinand Wilhelm Brune , who had already been in charge of a large part of the business since 1827, as von Natorp was only partially able to work due to illness.

The most famous building by Natorps is the Princely Court Theater Detmold , built in 1825 and burned down on February 5, 1912 , the last high-classical building in the residential city of Detmold , on the design of which he was advised by the Kassel court master builder Johann Conrad Bromeis .

The tasks of the senior building council included not only the magnificent court buildings, but also the simple state buildings, the so-called camera building or economic building . One example of Natorp's work is the Princely Middle Mill , built between 1826 and 1828 in the simple style of late classicism. Today it houses the natural history exhibition of the Lippe State Museum.

Natorp was also rentmaster and mine owner (mountain factor). At the beginning of his activity he lived in Niederbarkhausen near Oerlinghausen .

His wife Dorothea geb. Bag died on August 4, 1819 in Detmold. According to his brother, he died as a widower at the age of 52, leaving behind an 11-year-old daughter.
