Johann Wilhelm David Bantelmann (born February 8, 1806 in Hamburg ; † March 21, 1877 there ) was a German landscape and portrait painter from the Hamburg School .

Life

Bantelmann was the son of the Hamburg official painter Johann Friedrich Ludwig Bantelmann (1774–1842). He studied painting at the academies in Berlin, from 1829 in Munich, and Vienna. He was a student of Gerdt Hardorff . Travels took him to the Harz, Saxon Switzerland and Tyrol. Later he mostly painted landscapes in northern Germany, city views and details as well as family pictures. He was also a member of the Hamburg Artists' Association from 1832 .
