Johann Wischel von Raesfeld

Johann Wischel von Raesfeld (* in the 16th century; † May 12, 1588 in Werne ) was canon in Münster .

Life

Johann Wischel von Raesfeld came from the Westphalian noble family von Raesfeld , from which numerous well-known personalities emerged. Its members were followers of the Catholic faith . Johann Wischel was the son of Wilbrand von Raesfeld zu Empte and his wife Margarethe von Wischel, she was an heir. His brothers Heinrich and Rotger were canons in Münster, his uncle Gottfried von Raesfeld cathedral dean . In 1576 Johann Wischel appeared as canon of St. Mauritz in Münster . In 1585 he was admitted to the cathedral chapter and emancipated the following year. As a member of the cathedral chapter, he was also a member of the state government during the time of the Sedis vacancy . On May 23rd and June 8th, 1587, he received instructions from the cathedral chapter to send an embassy to the Elector Ernst of Bavaria . On May 12, 1588, Johann was murdered by robbers near Werne and buried on May 17 in Münster Cathedral.
