Johann Zierenberg

Johann Zierenberg , also Czierenberg , Zirenberg , Czirenberg , Czyrenberch , (born September 1, 1574 in Danzig ; † April 21, 1642 ibid) was a German politician and mayor and royal burgrave of Danzig.

Life

Zierenberg was born in 1574 as the son of the mayor of Gdańsk Daniel Zierenberg and his wife Anna, geb. Schachmann, sister of the mayor Bartholomäus Schachmann. Johann Zierenberg studied at the Academic Gymnasium Gdansk , then studied in Krakow and Leipzig .

After completing his studies, he was elected lay judge in 1603, councilor in 1615 and judge in 1617. In 1631, 1635 and 1639 he held the office of mayor of Danzig, in 1625, 1626 and 1636 the office of royal burgrave.

In the thirties of the 17th century was Johann Zierenberg one of the most active leaders of the Gdansk Calvinists , he even wrote polemical theological writings against the leaders of the Gdansk Lutheran, Pastor John Corvinus and alderman John Ernst Schröder .
