Daniel Zierenberg

Daniel Zierenberg , also Czierenberg , Cyrembergk , Zirenberg , Syrenbergk , Sierenbergk , Czirenberg and Czyrenberch (* 1547 in Danzig ; † June 19, 1602 in Tempelburg near Danzig) was a German politician, mayor and royal burgrave of Danzig and father of Johann Zierenberg ( 1574-1642).

He was the son of Johann Zierenberg from Bremen and Dorothea, daughter of Danzig councilor Georg Schepper. On December 9th, 1571 he married Anna Schachmann, the sister of the future mayor of Gdansk Bartholomäus Schachmann . Bartholomäus Schachmann was a well-known supporter of Calvinism .

Daniel Zierenberg was elected alderman in 1575, councilor in 1579 and judge in 1581. From 1586 he held the office of mayor of Gdansk, and from 1600 also the office of royal burgrave.

He was buried in the Marienkirche in Gdańsk . The epitaph for Daniel and Anna Zierenberg, ascribed to the Danzig sculptor Abraham van den Blocke , was erected on one of the pillars in 1616 .

The son of Daniel Zierenberg, Johann , was mayor of Gdansk from 1630–1642 and an avid promoter of Calvinism. Johann's daughter, Konstanze Zierenberg was a famous singer, called "Baltic Sea Maiden".
