from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann von Gemmingen (* 1549 ; † May 1, 1599 ) was confidante of the Counts of Palatinate-Neuburg and Palatinate-Neuburg Chamber Master, Hunter and Councilor.

Life

He was a son of Dietrich von Gemmingen (1526–1587) and Philippina von Schwartzenburg († 1554). In 1557 he came to play with Philipp Ludwig , the son of Count Palatine Wolfgang . With Philipp Ludwig he went to Vienna in 1566 to the imperial court and from there to Hungary. In 1569 he became chamber master, 1576 hunter and 1582 council. When he resigned from office in 1588, he received a board loan of 1,000 guilders. He also owned a share in Gemmingen , where he had part of the palace rebuilt.

He was buried in Gemmingen. His grave monument, once installed in the old Gemming church in the choir behind the sacrament house, is now in the Gemming lower castle . It shows the deceased in life-size in armor, bareheaded and hands folded in prayer. In the upper corners of the panel you can see the coats of arms of Gemminger and Heid von Hohenburg, below that of Scharf von Göler and von Schwarzenburg. The inscriptions name the deceased, his age and date of death, his position at court as well as his motto I trust in God, he helped me out of all hardship . Adolf von Oechelhäuser describes the tomb as seldom beautiful , particularly carefully worked out, and individually treated and developed well above the average .

family

He was married to Anna Heidin von Hohenburg († 1601).
