Johann von Reumont (* around 1590 ; † March 10, 1672 ) was born in Wallonia , colonel and city commander of Münster in Westphalia during the negotiations for the Peace of Westphalia .

Live and act

In imperial service he rose to colonel and became the commandant of an infantry regiment. This was stationed in Dorsten from 1641 . After Münster was chosen as the place of negotiation for the Peace of Westphalia, the city offered him command of the city regiment. He was supposed to ensure the security of the conference participants and the observance of the neutrality of Münster. Johann von Reumont accepted this post after he was assured that after the negotiations he would get his old regiment back.

He started his service for the city of Münster in October 1643. For this he received an annual salary of 1,000 Reichstalers . As early as 1646 he was elevated to the rank of Imperial General Guard. In 1649 he received the title of Imperial Knight . He remained in the service of the city until April 5, 1651, after the last envoys had left Münster. He then entered the service of the Prince-Bishop of Münster, Christoph Bernhard von Galen . In the course of the confrontation between von Galen and Münster, in which the city sought independence from its sovereign, Johann von Reumont was appointed city commandant again in 1655 and for the last time in 1657.
