Johanna Elisabeth Weydmüller (also: Weidmüller; née Krüger; * 1725 in Sorau , Niederlausitz ; † March 2, 1807 in Dresden ) was an 18th century painter in Saxony. She painted portraits , genre , pieces of animals , fruits and especially pieces of flowers behind glass and thus achieved a certain fame. One of her paintings belongs to the collection of the Alte Pinakothek in Munich.

Life

Johanna Elisabeth Krüger was born as the daughter of the court painter to the Count of Promnitz in 1725 in Sorau (today: Żary ). She learned the technique of reverse glass painting from her father and went to Dresden from 1749, where, according to a depiction by Joseph Friedrich von Racknitz in 1811, she “only painted for her pleasure, without becoming particularly well known”. In 1757 she moved back to her home town in Niederlausitz. After the Seven Years' War (1756–1763) she married the retired lieutenant Friedrich August Weidmüller from the Electorate of Saxony. Since (again according to Racknitz) the husband's pension was insufficient for a living, Weydmüller tried to market some of her paintings at the electoral court in Dresden from 1768 , which she succeeded - she got a permanent position. Weydmüller taught the elector's family in drawing and painting and traveled with the court, including to Munich and Mannheim, where their work was also well received and exhibited in the galleries. Numerous works by her have also been shown in the Dresden picture gallery. Since 1771 she was a member of the Dresden Academy .

Weydmüller died as a widow in Dresden in 1807.
