Johanna Maria Bonomo

Johanna Maria Bonomo, also Giovanna Maria Bonomo OSB (born August 15, 1606 in Asiago , Italy , † February 22, 1670 in Bassano del Grappa , Italy) was a Roman Catholic abbess and mystic who was led by Pope Pius VI. Was beatified in 1783. The Catholic Church celebrates its Memorial Day on March 1st.

Life

Johanna Maria was raised by Poor Clares in Trento and joined the Benedictine order in Bassano del Grappa in 1622 . She became novice mistress, prioress, and three times she was abbess. She was mystically gifted, suffered from severe physical and mental illnesses, and bore the stigmata of the cross of Jesus with humility and patience. Many of her writings on the ascetic life are still widely used today. Johanna Maria's bones are kept and venerated in the Church of Blessed Johanna (chiesa della Beata Giovanna) in Via Beata Giovanna, 56 in Bassano del Grappa Bassano.
