Johanna Neumann
Johanna Neumann née Hiepe (born September 29, 1787 in / near Mannheim , † May 31, 1863 in Elbing , East Prussia ) was a German writer.
Forced to support the family after the bankruptcy of her husband, the Elbingen merchant Philipp Neumann, Neumann published numerous novels and writings for young people. In 1824 she built a secondary school for girls.
Franz Brümmer judges in the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie : “She loved to cultivate the historical novel, and despite the haste with which she threw one work after another on the book market, one has to admit that for many the fable is not bad is invented and the individual events are motivated with skill. But just as many are poetically and artistically of little value in spite of the interest that the material demands. "
