Johanna Pichlmair

Johanna Pichlmair (* 1990 in Judenburg ) is an Austrian violinist.

life and work

Since she was 6 years old, Johanna Pichlmair took violin lessons from Alexandra Rappitsch at the music school in Fohnsdorf in her home town . In 2008 she began studying the violin with Igor Ozim at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. A year later she moved to the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. Here she continued her studies with Antje Weithaas and Feng Ning . Since 2014 she has been studying at the Berlin University of the Arts with Nora Chastain, currently taking her concert exam. She completed master classes with Mayumi Seiler , Pinchas Zukerman , Lewis Kaplan and Eberhard Feltz .

She has won numerous national and international music competitions, such as the Ibolyka Gyarfas Competition in Berlin, the Fritz Kreisler Competition in Vienna, the Pacem Competition in Terris in Bayreuth and the International Lake Constance Music Competition . In July 2018 she won first prize at the Ysaye International Music Competition in Liège . In 2019 she won 2nd prizes at the Max Rostal Competition Berlin, the Peter Pirazzi Foundation Frankfurt competition and the Concours Musical International de Montréal, with the latter also receiving special prizes for the best Bach interpretation and for the best interpretation of the contemporary commissioned work. She was a scholarship holder of the Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz Foundation and was a member of the Herbert von Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic from 2014 to 2016 . In 2015 she received a scholarship from the German Music Competition and from 2013 to 2017 from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben .

In the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons Pichlmair was included in the national selection of concerts for young artists . In this context she gave numerous chamber music appearances with the Trio Pascal and other duo and trio formations. At the suggestion of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben , she performed several times at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and at the Chamber Music Academy of Heidelberg Spring 2015 .

Johanna Pichlmair has been a member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2017 . She has given solo appearances and recitals in various European countries, Canada and the United States. She has made guest appearances at festivals such as the Ludwigsburg Festival . She has appeared as a soloist with the Munich Radio Orchestra and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra .

As the winner of the 20th competition of the German Musical Instrument Fund , the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben has provided Johanna Pichlmair with a violin since 2012. Johanna Pichlmair currently plays a violin made by Giuseppe Giovanni Guarneri (Cremona 1730) from the German Musical Instrument Fund .
