Johanna Pirker

Johanna Pirker (* 1988 ) is an Austrian computer scientist with a research focus on computer games , virtual reality and data science .

Life

Johanna Pirker studied Software Development and Business at Graz University of Technology and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 2017 she did her doctorate at TU Graz on Immersive and Engaging Forms of Virtual Learning. Together with Maroon , she developed an interactive physics laboratory for use in the classroom. Since 2013 she has been teaching Game Design and Development , Information Search and Retrieval and Social Media Technologies at TU Graz . Her main focus is on the areas of HCI , social network analysis and games user research .

Within the computer game industry, she is best known as the initiator and director of Game Dev Days Graz , Austria's largest conference for game developers, and as a speaker at international conferences such as the GDC . She is also heavily involved in the indie game development scene and game jams .
