Johannes-Leo Hoffmann (born August 25, 1941 in Teistungen ; † November 14, 1972 ibid) was a fatality on the inner-German border .

Life

Johannes-Leo Hoffmann finished elementary school in the 7th grade and learned the trade of saddler and upholsterer. He then served voluntarily in the National People's Army in Oranienburg . He later worked for the German People's Police and most recently at the VEB Dairy Combine in Mühlhausen .

In the early evening of November 14, 1972, he reached the exclusion zone via the site of the former Teistungenburg monastery , which was close to the inner-German border. When crossing the second barrier, he triggered two self-firing systems that had recently been installed there. He suffered about 80 splinter injuries and died of bleeding before the ambulance reached the Worbis hospital with him .

Johannes-Leo Hoffman was allegedly the first victim of the newly installed self-firing systems at that time. The border had previously been secured with earth mines, which had also claimed various victims.
