Johannes Nepomuk statue in Schlöglgasse

The Johannes Nepomuk statue in Schlöglgasse in the 12th district of Meidling is one of the representations of Johannes Nepomuk in Vienna .

History and description

The statue of Johannes Nepomuk, which is set up today in Schlöglgasse, was commissioned by Hetzendorfer Castle Captain Jakob Josef Woller von Wollersfeld (1713–1777) in Hetzendorfer Allee on Hetzendorfer Strasse .

To protect the statue, a wooden chapel was first built, which was removed around 1836. The statue itself was given a new location in a round arch niche in the garden wall of the Gall-Hof. Between 1968 and 1969, condominiums were built in the park of the Gall-Hof, which has since been called the Marienvilla . During this construction work, the wall was removed and the statue was finally placed on the north side of one of these new residential buildings on Schlöglgasse.

The Austrian art topography describes the statue around 1908 as larger than life, polychromed and from the middle of the 18th century. At that time, the statue stood on a pedestal with a volute framing and a protruding cover plate. A coat of arms cartouche showed a coat of arms with a vine knife in a striped field.

According to Dehio , the statue of Johannes Nepomuk is now a stone figure standing on a volute-framed plinth on the north side of a residential building in Schlöglgasse near Schönbrunner Allee.
