Johannes Adam (pastor)

Johannes Adam (* before 1591; † after 1628) was a German Reformed pastor. He was superintendent on Bergstrasse and worked in Heppenheim . Adam came from Rügenwalde in Pomerania and was called Pommeranus or Pomer.

Life

A relative (father?) Of Adam could have been the evangelical pastor Thomas Adam in Schlawin . His brother was probably Jakob Adam , later a Reformed pastor in Danzig .

Adam studied in Heidelberg from 1587. Then worked from 1591 to 1595 at the Reformed Gymnasium Kreuznach . He was then appointed to the high school in Heidelberg as a preceptor . On February 16, 1591 he married Sarah, the daughter of the famous Professor Lambertus Helmius Pithopoeus , with whom he had three children.

On April 3, 1601 Adam became pastor at St. Peter's Church in Heppenheim. As Catholic troops the mountain road and conquered the Mainz elector and Archbishop Johann Schweikhard of Kronberg , the Office Starkenburg 1622/23 again took possession of this led by the Viscount Gerhard von Waldenburg Catholic confession again. On July 1, 1624 Adam was deposed as pastor in Heppenheim, but remained in Heppenheim until 1628. The burgrave wrote a letter about Adam's impeachment. When the Protestant King Gustav II Adolf conquered Bergstrasse in 1630, Reformed pastors were able to return to Heppenheim until 1634. Then the Elector of Mainz implemented his policy of re-Catholicization . Protestant baptisms and church services were banned.

On February 16, 1613 Adam wrote a dedication poem for a book by Anton Praetorius against witch trials . 1619–1627 he gave a. a. Psalm studies by Abraham Scultetus .
