from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes Agricola (2nd half of the 15th century) was a Franco-Flemish composer and singer of the early Renaissance .

Identity and Works

In the case of Johannes Agricola, the dates and places of his birth and death could not yet be determined. In addition, the identity of his person has not been finally clarified. Documents from the Ghent City Archives name Johannes and Alexander Agricola (1446–1506) as brothers. According to today's assumption of music historical research, Johannes is identical to the singer Johannes Agricola, who worked for the Lieve Vrowe Broederschap (Brotherhood of Our Lady) between the years 1486 and 1493 and again in 1496 in the Dutch city of 's-Hertogenbosch , partly under the Name "Johannes de Gandavo". He may be the jo too . Agricola , to whom the arrangement of the song “Fors seulement” can be attributed; he could also be Jannes Agricola , from whom the three-part song “Dat ic mijen lijden aldus helen moet” is said to come (in another music-historical publication, however, this song is attributed to the composer Petrus Elinc ).

meaning

The musical style of the few well-known compositions by Johannes Agricola allows him to be assigned to the 2nd generation of Franco-Flemish composers.
