Johannes Angelos Dukas ( Middle Greek Ἰωάννης Άγγελος Δούκας ; * around 1152; † after 1222) was a Byzantine aristocrat from the Angeloi dynasty .

Life

Johannes was probably the second eldest son of General Andronikos Angelos Dukas and Euphrosyne Kastamonitissa . Thus, on his father's side, he was a great-grandson of Emperor Alexios I Komnenos and Irene Dukaina .

In the summer of 1183, Johannes, together with his father and his brothers Konstantin , Alexios , Theodoros , Andronikos and Isaak participated in a conspiracy against Emperor Andronikos I. After Isaac Angelos himself ascended the throne in Constantinople on September 11, 1185 , he drew his brother with the high dignity of an emperor . In 1199 Johannes was considered to be a possible successor for his sick brother Alexios III.

The time of the death of Johannes Angelos Dukas is unknown. It is epigraphically documented that he survived the Nicean Emperor Theodor I († 1222).
