Johannes Brockmann

Johannes Brockmann (spoken: Brookmann) (born July 17, 1888 in Paderborn , † December 14, 1975 in Rinkerode ) was a German politician of the Center Party .

Life and work

Brockmann was born the fourth of ten children to a railway fitter. One of his brothers was Hermann Brockmann , who later became a Social Democrat member of the state parliament . After completing his training at the Paderborn teachers' college , he taught at an elementary school near Bocholt from 1911 . In 1913 he moved to the school in Rinkerode, where he became headmaster in 1930. In the Weimar Republic he was chairman of the Catholic Young Teachers' Association . After he was released from school by the National Socialists in 1933, the Catholic Church employed him as a teacher at one of their private schools. After the assassination attempt on July 20, 1944 , he was imprisoned for a long time because of his contacts with Catholic resistance. In 1945 Brockmann was brought back to the civil service, first again to become headmaster in Rinkerode and then general advisor to the Westphalian provincial government.

Political party

Brockmann had been a member of the Center Party since 1919 and soon became chairman of the Westphalian Windthorst Association . From 1946 to 1948 he was federal chairman of the center for the first time. In 1947 he also became its Westphalian state chairman. After Helene Wessel left , he was first managing director of the Center Party, re-elected from March 9, 1953. In 1969 he was replaced by Gerhard Ribbeheger for reasons of age .

Johannes Brockmann was a member of the Prussian Landtag for the Center Party from April 27, 1926 to 1933 .

After 1945 Brockmann was a member of the Rinkerode town council and until 1961 also a member of the district council. From 1946 to 1958 he was a member of the state parliament in North Rhine-Westphalia and chairman of the Center Party there. In 1948/49 he was a member of the Parliamentary Council and was also chairman of the centre's group. Brockmann was elected to the Bundestag for the first time as early as 1949, but renounced the mandate. In 1953 he was re-elected for one term in the German Bundestag , where he represented the constituency of Oberhausen .
