Johannes Herzgsell

Johannes Herzgsell SJ (* 1955 in Augsburg ) is a German philosopher .

Life

From 1966 to 1975 Herzgsell attended high school near St. Stephan in Augsburg . He completed his basic studies (1977–1979) in philosophy at the University of Philosophy in Munich with a bachelor's degree. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1979. He completed his main studies (1982–1985) in philosophy at the School of Philosophy with a master's degree . He completed his undergraduate studies (1985–1988) in theology at Heythrop College, University of London with a Bachelor of Divinity. After completing his doctorate (1995–1999) at the Philosophy College (with a thesis on Karl Rahner's anthropology), he has been teaching at the Philosophy College since 1999 (as a lecturer , lecturer and private lecturer ). After completing his habilitation in 2010 at the Philosophy College (with a thesis on the relationship between Christianity and other world religions), he taught from 2011 until his retirement as professor for the philosophy of religion , religious studies and the foundations of theology.

His work focuses on systematic theology ( Karl Rahner , Hans Urs von Balthasar , Joseph Ratzinger , Eugen Biser ), philosophy and theology of religions, comparison of world religions and philosophical doctrine of God (essence and properties of God, experience of God).

Today he lives and works at the St. Blasien college .
