Johannes Klumpp (conductor)

Johannes Klumpp (born December 17, 1980 in Stuttgart ) is a German conductor.

Career

Johannes Klumpp graduated from the humanistic-musical Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium in Stuttgart . After taking private conducting lessons with Manfred Schreier and Thomas Ungar , he studied orchestral conducting with Nicolas Pasquet and Gunter Kahlert at the Liszt School of Music Weimar. He also studied viola with Frank Strauch.

From 2009 to 2011 Johannes Klumpp was 1st Kapellmeister at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen. Since 2013 he has been chief conductor of the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra in Essen. As a guest conductor, he worked with the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, the Tyrolean State Orchestra Innsbruck, the Radio Orchestra Cologne, the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Nuremberg and Munich Symphony, the Northwest German Philharmonic, with the Joven Academia de la Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, the orchestra the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz Munich at the Staatstheater Darmstadt and many others.

Johannes Klumpp has headed the SommerMusikAkademie Schloss Hundisburg since 2016, and has directed its festival orchestra since 2007. The festival was founded in 1992 by the pianist Rolf-Dieter Arens in Saxony-Anhalt. In 2017 it celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Awards

In 2006 Johannes Klumpp received the Weimar "Franz Liszt Prize". With his participation in the final of the conducting competition in Besançon, he first attracted international attention in 2007. In 2008 he won first prize as well as the special prize for accompanying conducting at the German university competition “in memoriam Herbert von Karajan”. In 2010 he received the Herrmann-Hildebrandt-Scholarship, in 2011 he was a special prize winner at the German Conducting Competition.

From 2005 to 2011 Johannes Klumpp was promoted up to the third level in the Conductors' Forum of the German Music Council. From 2010 to 2014 he was a member of the artist list “Maestros of Tomorrow”.

Recordings

In cooperation with the classical label Ars-Produktion, Johannes Klumpp released CDs and SA-CDs with works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Johann Nepomuk Hummel and Carl Maria von Weber as well as Ignaz Pleyel .
