concept

The Hundisburg Castle Summer Music Academy is held annually from the end of July to the beginning of August in Hundisburg and the surrounding area. During the festival, ten events will be offered at eight venues over nine days, six of which will be played by the academy orchestra. A total of around 2,000 visitors are reached every year. Concerts

Academy opening

In the opening concert of the festival in the academy hall at Schloss Hundisburg, young prizewinners of Central German instrumental competitions appear every “odd” year. Every “even” year, the event takes place in the spirit of the connection between the arts, where chamber music, drama and dance come together. On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, SMA opened in 2012 with Georg Philipp Telemann's baroque opera Pimpinone.

Chamber music concert

In the chamber music concert, the pianist Rolf-Dieter Arens makes music together with young musicians in the old factory in Althaldensleben.

The special concert

In a special concert, artists or ensembles appear in the Sankt-Andreaskirche in Hundisburg, whose performances go beyond conventional sound experiences.

Public rehearsal / talk concert

The discussion concert in the castle barn is the first meeting of the audience with the annually newly formed academy orchestra. The music of the final concert can be heard here for the first time, explained by the conductor Johannes Klumpp.

SMA Jazz Night

On Jazz Night, both young artists and experienced ensembles perform in the brickworks technical monument in Hundisburg. The Jazz Night extends the musical boundaries of the otherwise classically oriented festival.

Convertible concert

During the festival, the musicians of the academy orchestra develop chamber music works independently in addition to orchestral rehearsals. They present these in a walk-through concert, where they are distributed in chamber music formations on the property or the surroundings of the castle. The audience wanders from one station to the next and receives introductions to music and location at each stop. Due to the demand, two rounds are offered.

Final concerts of the academy orchestra

The Hundisburg Castle Summer Music Academy concludes with concerts by the Academy Orchestra under the direction of Johannes Klumpp. These traditionally take place in the castle barn of Schloss Hundisburg and in the town church Sankt Nicolai in Oschersleben.

Academy Orchestra Schloss Hundisburg

Every spring, participation in the Hundisburg Castle Academy Orchestra is advertised at German and European music academies and online. An international orchestra is put together on the basis of a current recording on which the applicants play a piece of music of their choice. The program includes central masterpieces from German music history. The young musicians rehearse for a week in Hundisburg under the direction of Johannes Klumpp and do the majority of the SummerMusikAkademie with the public rehearsal or the discussion concert, the walk-through concert and the final concerts in the Schlossscheune, in Oschersleben and in Helmstedt.

history

In 1991, the renovation and reconstruction of Hundisburg Castle and the reconstruction of the baroque garden and the landscape park began. In 1993 Rolf-Dieter Arens and the KULTUR-Landschaft Haldensleben-Hundisburg e. V. the SommerMusikAkademie to achieve public acceptance of the ongoing construction site. In 1995 the association took over the sponsorship of SMA.

Since then, the destroyed parts of the castle have been restored and made usable for the Summer Music Academy. For the reconstruction of the baroque stucco ceiling in the main hall, which was inaugurated in 2012 for the 20th anniversary of the SMA, the painter Christoph Wetzel was able to use photographs from the 1930s and color slides from the inventory of the “Führerbefehl Monumentalmalerei”. The SommerMusikAkademie is not limited to the castle grounds, but also includes historical buildings in Hundisburg and the surrounding area.
