History and description

Nothing is known about the history of this medieval castle complex. Possibly it served, like the small tower hill castle Helfenroth, which is only 1250 meters northeast, the administration of the imperial game ban from Zeilberg , of which only the tower hill castle hill has survived . The castle site was first mentioned in 1685 and again in 1696 by the Baunach Hunting Commission.

The oval, 80 × 70 meter measuring castle site is located at 356  m above sea level. NHN height on a north-northeast facing spur of the Greinberg. The north and east sides of the crest drop steeply. In the west and south, the area in front of the former castle is relatively flat, it only drops a few meters in altitude , after which it rises after a saddle to the summit of the mountain. A sandstone wall with a trench in front was built there to protect the complex.
