The Postal am Lohberg is an Outbound hilltop castle on the eponymous Lohberg ( 440  m above sea level.  NHN ), about 1,500 meters east-northeast of Gunzendorf , a district of the Upper Franconian municipality Buttenheim in Bamberg district in Bavaria . Nothing is known about the history of the castle complex.

description

The castle site lies on a spur of the Lohberg protruding to the southwest, halfway up the slope of the Kautschenberg. As a result, it is naturally protected on three sides by the steep slope of the site; the system only had to be reinforced on the northeast side, as the area in front of the castle rises a few meters to the summit of the 500-meter-high Kautschenberg.

The two-part castle area is roughly in the shape of a rectangle, it is divided by a section ditch with an outer wall into a smaller area at the peak of the spur and an area on the mountain side , probably used as a bailey . The two sides to the northwest and southeast are protected by a berm in addition to the steep slope . The most endangered side in the northeast is sealed off by a neck ditch that is up to three meters deep and extends to the two sides of the slope. There are two overburden mounds there.

The Burgstall is registered as a ground monument D-4-6132-0093 "Medieval Burgstall" by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation .
