The former summit castle is located in the northwestern part of the Franconian Alb at 491.6  m above sea level. NN high crest of the mountain called Hoher Stein . The Hohe Stein lies on the eastern edge of the Neumühlbach valley, which flows into the Leinleiter valley a little south of Heiligenstadt . The Burgstall is located about 100 meters above the valley, about 370 meters north-northeast of the center of Reckendorf and about 2100 meters north of the Protestant parish church of Sankt Michael in Heiligenstadt.

Today the place of the abandoned castle is densely wooded, only a remnant of the wall and the moat are preserved . The ground monument recorded by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments as a "hilltop settlement of the late Neolithic and castle stables of the Middle Ages" has the monument number D-4-6133-0014.
