Old descriptions

Topographic description (1752)

In Biedermann's topographical description from 1752, Zoggendorf is described as follows:

“Zochendorf, a small village of 16 households on the Leinleiter between Burggrub and Heiligenstadt, in it the Baron v. Stauffenberg zu Burggrub village and community, Zehend and hunting and water lord, the bishopric from the Ebermannstadt office is high court lord. "
“Of these subjects, 2 men belong to the bishopric in the caste office Ebermannstadt, 4 men belong to the Princely House of Brandenburg-Culmbach, Amt Streitberg, 2 men belong to Count v Giech in Schloss Wiesentfels and 8 men belong to Mr Baron v. Stauffenberg into Castle Burggrub, which 10 of the latter are in the knight canton of Gebürg . "
“The community has a piece of fish water free, is committed to the Protestant religion and parishes in Heiligenstadt. This Zochendorf belonged to Mr. Streitberg , after whose death it was only so shattered. "

Joseph Heller (1829)

The Bamberg private scholar Joseph Heller describes Zoggendorf in his description of the Muggendorfer Mountains in 1829 as follows:

"Zoggendorf, Bayreuth, Protestant, in the district court of Ebermannstadt , belongs to the Stauffenberg patrimonial court of Burggrub, is an insignificant village without a tavern with 135 inhabitants and is located on the Leinleiter."

Surname

The village was probably named after one of its first landlords, a zocho. It was not until the 19th century that the spelling and pronunciation of “Zochendorf” changed in Zoggendorf.
