Tiefenpölz is a district of the Upper Franconian market Heiligenstadt in Upper Franconia in the Bamberg district .

The St. Martin parish church protrudes prominently over the village. The Seigelstein in the direction of Teuchatz is at least as striking . From Seigelstein you have a view to the north and east, which in autumnal weather extends to the Fichtel Mountains .

history

Only since the 12th century has one differentiated between Tiefenpölz and Hohenpölz. Both places were previously called "Bolenze" and "Bolinze", although there were variations in the spelling. The first documentary mention comes from August 6th 1096 in a certificate of a Wicken von Langheim about an exchange of goods in which an "Arnolt de Bolence" appeared as a witness.

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Tiefenpölz was incorporated into the Heiligenstadt market in Upper Franconia.

Surname

The place name researchers disagree about the origin of the word Pölz , but mostly see a Slavic origin. Either it goes back to the root poljce (small field) or to a Slavic village founder named Bolen.

In Bundschuh's Geographical Lexicon from 1799, Tiefenpölz is described as follows:

"Tiefenpölz, Bamberg Catholic parish village in the Memmelsdorf district. The parish belongs to the Bamberg diocese and the Scheßlitz regional chapter, is 4 hours from the royal seat, has the same soil and mixed rule with Teuchatz, but Memmelsdorf exercises village and community rule over the place. "

School job description (1914)

In a school description by the teacher PR Link from 1914, it says:

“Tiefenpölz, independent parish and Catholic parish village at 460 m above sea level in a beautiful romantic area. The climate is a bit rough, but healthy. The place has 36 houses and families, 190 inhabitants (8 Protestants). Post and train stations are Heiligenstadt, doctor and pharmacy can be found in Scheßlitz. Tiefenpölz has good spring water; the community fountain is 200 paces from the school building. A messenger procures the food twice a week from Bamberg; for unmarried teachers there is a proper lunch menu in the one inn. "
