location

Location of Siegritz in the Heiligenstadt market in Upper Franconia

Siegritz is located near the Werntal on the Alb plateau at an altitude of about 456 meters in the extreme southeast of the Bamberg district.

history

The first documentary mention comes from the year 1331 when the knights Ott and Albrecht von Aufseß owned the tithe and sold half of it for 315 pounds of Heller to the St. Kathrein Hospital in Bamberg.

Surname

Despite its Slavic-sounding ending, the place name should be German. Name researchers suspect that the court of Sigehard evolved over the course of time through abrasion of Sicharaz .

Topographic description (1752)

In Biedermann's topographical description from 1752, Siegritz is described as follows:

“Siegritz, a village on the heights not far from the Leinleiter, including 4 men from the Hochstift in the Kastenamt Waischenfeld , 3 men from the same in the Kastenamt Schluesselau , 4 men from the Princely House of Brandenburg Culmbach into the Amt Streitberg , 8 men from the Baron v. Stauffenberg, 3 men to Mr. Stiebar v. Buttenheim to Castle Pretzfeld , 3 men to Baron v Seckendorf to Castle Unterleinleiter and 3 men to his Veilbronn property. The nobles are all controllable to the Canton Gebürg . "

Modern times

Fire station

In 1929 the Evangelical Lutheran Congregational Association, which had formed on site, bought a dance hall and converted it into a prayer room. Church services have been held in Siegritz since then. The Protestant Christians with their prayer hall alternately belonged to the parish offices of Unterleinleiter and Wüstenstein, but mostly - and currently - belonged to the parish of Heiligenstadt. After renovation and extension work in several construction phases, the Johanneskirche has been again a place of worship since June 21, 1998 with regular services.

In the summer of 1969, a fire broke out in a barn, which spread to other buildings and burned down five rural properties as a result. The exact cause has never been determined. Three of the affected farmers relocated, some of the land has not been built on since then.

On January 1, 1971, Siegritz was incorporated into the Heiligenstadt market in Upper Franconia.

Others

On the outskirts of Siegritz is the towing route of the paragliding and hang-gliding club NBDF. You can fly here almost all year round, in the summer months, depending on the weather, you can watch the take-offs of paragliders , hang- gliders and fixed-wing aircraft not only on weekends and holidays . The launch site is also approved for the launch types UL towing and electric motor ascent ; fixed-wing aircraft in the latter launch type can occasionally be seen here.

Because of the thermally very active plateau, cross-country flights of over 100 km in (early) summer from here are not uncommon, the record for paragliders is over 200 km, for hang gliders 280 km.
