Tower Hill Castle Hill

The Tower Hill Castle Hill is an Outbound medieval motte (moth), just east of the hamlet Seehöflein , in the municipality of Stegaurach in the district of Bamberg in Bavaria , Germany . Today it is located in flat meadow terrain, east of the house Waldstrasse 6. No historical or archaeological information is known about this Niederungsburg , it is roughly dated to medieval times. Since the tower hill is in agricultural land, it has been severely damaged in the meantime, and some of it has also been removed. The site is protected as a ground monument number D-4-6131-0001: Medieval tower hill .

description

The tower hill is about 270  m above sea level. NN altitude on the easternmost, spur-like foothills of an only slightly rising mountain, only a few meters above a flat meadow. On the south-west, east and north-east side it was protected against approach by the donkey ditch.

The earlier appearance of the complex can still be seen in the cadastral edition of 1847. Accordingly, the rectangular tower hill had the dimensions of around 40 × 30 meters, and had a seven to eight meter wide ditch on its northwest side against the rising foreland. The earlier access to the facility was also on this side. The remaining sides of the donkey ditch were unpaved. Until 1856/57 there was a rectangular stone building on the tower hill, which was then demolished.

The south-east part of the tower hill was later demolished, so that today only a remnant of a hill measuring 15 × 30 meters remains.
