In the second half of the 13th century, the noble free von Schlüsselberg , owners of Obersenftenberg Castle , built a second castle on the Senftenberg named Niedersenftenberg , which was mentioned in a document in 1295 with Vogt Ulrich von Senftenberg and 1296 with Vogt Konrad von Senftenberg. In 1525, Niedersenftenberg Castle was destroyed in the Peasants' War and demolished in 1723.

The St. George's Chapel is located on what is now the Burgstall with only minor traces of a moat and wall .
