history

The castle was probably built as a moated castle and was first mentioned in 1304 as "Wulprunne".

In 1483 the castle complex was rebuilt as a castle after being destroyed in the course of the Hussite Wars and destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525 . In 1560 the castle was surrounded by a moat and a curtain wall. In the 17th century the castle is mentioned with a dam and a castle pond and in 1693 it was mentioned as ruinous.

The castle is owned by the bishopric of Bamberg , in 1594 Dietrich von Streitberg auf Greifenstein, and in 1809 it was privately owned.

From 1824 to 1836 a cotton mill was housed in the castle until the plant was completely demolished in 1890.

Today the remains of the lining walls and moat remains from the former castle and palace complex. A rectangular row of bushes still shows the former defensive walls. The castle site is listed as a monument D-4-71-142-51 "Burgstall, former Veilbronn moated castle, remains of the lining wall and the ditch, mid-16th century" and as a ground monument D-4-6133-0024 "Late Medieval Burgstall" from the Bavarian State Office recorded for monument preservation .
