Johannes Motschmann

Johannes Motschmann (* 1978 in Hamburg ) is a German composer .

Life

His mother is the Bremen member of the Bundestag Elisabeth Motschmann , his father the theologian Jens Motschmann . At the age of 9, he started playing the piano and composing.

He began his music studies at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden . He studied composition with Jörg Herchet , piano with Gunther Anger , electronic music with Wilfried Jentzsch and music theory with Clemens Kühn and Ludwig Holtmeier . From 2002 to 2006 he continued his studies at the University of Music in Karlsruhe with Wolfgang Rihm . There he passed his diploma and concert exam. This was followed by postgraduate studies at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin with Hanspeter Kyburz . Then he dealt intensively with algorithmic composition .

Motschmann's compositions have been performed at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival , the Beethovenfest Bonn and the Yellow Lounge in Berghain in Berlin. Some of his works have been published on music albums, including a. on Downtown Illusions and Folk Tunes by Spark . One of his works was eponymous for the album Echoing Voices by Andrea Ritter , on which it is included. In 2008 Motschmann received the Bremen Composers Prize.

Johannes Motschmann lives in Berlin. He regularly participates in the music education project "Response" of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen .
