Johannes Petreius ( Hans Peterlein , * around 1497 in Langendorf near Bad Kissingen, † March 18, 1550 in Nuremberg ) was a German wood carver and printer .

Petreius worked as a printer in Nuremberg from 1523. From 1536 he published 750 books as well as 21 music titles with a total of 1,000 pieces of music. The first edition of Nicolaus Copernicus ' De revolutionibus orbium coelestium in 1543 is one of the best-known writings he printed .

He also published an alchemical collection De Alchemia (1541), the core of the later Theatrum Chemicum .

His grave is in the Johannisfriedhof in Nuremberg.
