Johannes Rauch (born August 3, 1971 in Innsbruck , mostly Hannes Rauch for short ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and was a member of the Tyrolean state parliament from 2008 to 2011 . Between April 2011 and December 2013, Rauch was General Secretary of the Austrian People's Party . From October 2013 to November 2017 he was a member of the National Council and sports spokesman for the ÖVP.

Rauch attended elementary school in Kufstein from 1977 to 1981, where he grew up and lives today. He then attended the Kufstein High School from 1981, which he graduated with the Matura in 1989 . From 1989 to 2000 he studied law and from 2000 to 2002 political science at the University of Innsbruck . Rauch completed his studies in 2002 with the academic degree Mag. Phil. from. During his school days he joined the Catholic school association K.Ö.St.V. Cimbria-Kufstein in the MKV with and during his student days he became a member of the Catholic student association AV Austria Innsbruck in the ÖCV .

politics

Rauch got into politics through the Young People's Party and was state secretary of the JVP Tirol . From 2001 to 2003 he worked as press spokesman for the Tyrolean People's Party . From 2003 to 2004, Hannes Rauch was the press spokesman for Interior Minister Ernst Strasser and held this position until 2006 under his successor Liese Prokop . Rauch was then from July to November 2006 press spokesman for the ÖVP federal party and from 2006 to 2007 he took on the role of deputy head of the section in the Federal Ministry of the Interior. From October 2007 Rauch was chief executive of the Tyrolean People's Party. He has represented the ÖVP in the Tyrolean state parliament since July 1, 2008.

On April 19, 2011, as part of the reorientation of the ÖVP, after the party chairman Josef Pröll resigned from all political offices for health reasons, he was appointed as the new general secretary of the ÖVP. After the National Council election in September 2013, Hannes Rauch entered the National Council via the federal list for the ÖVP and became the ÖVP's sports spokesman. In December 2013, Rauch resigned as Secretary General of the ÖVP. His successor in this role is Gernot Blümel .
