Johannes Reborch (Provost)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes Reborch (* around 1433 in Krempe ; † July 24, 1513 in Bordesholm ) was Augustinian canon and 1485–1490 prior of the Augustinian canons in Bordesholm.

Life

Entries in the local city register show that Johannes Reborch came from Krempe. An exact date of birth is not known. In 1460 he enrolled at the University of Rostock . The first proven effective date is December 23, 1476, on which Reborch finished copies of edifying treatises in the Jasenitz Abbey - a branch of the Augustinian canons Abbey of Bordesholm.

Presumably he stayed only temporarily in the abbey that was abolished there in 1486 and actually lived in the Augustinian canons abbey of Bordesholm . There he was elected provost in 1485. When Bordesholm joined the Windesheim congregation in 1490 , Reborch resigned from his office. This was considered common in such cases. Reborch continued to enjoy a high reputation; documents from 1490 and 1495 show that he represented the convent alongside the new prior Andreas Laer van Deventer .

Services

Closely connected with the name Reborchs is the Bordesholmer Marienklage , a liturgical passion play in Middle Low German. His handwriting is considered the only surviving tradition of the work. It is not known whether Reborch merely copied the Mary's lawsuit or processed it.
