Johannes Reich graduated from high school in Kirchheim unter Teck in 1978 , graduated in 1983 with a degree in industrial engineering at the University of Karlsruhe (today KIT - Karlsruhe Institute of Technology ) and was awarded a doctorate in 1989 at the University of Bamberg with the dissertation "Financing of nuclear waste disposal" . rer. pole. From 1984 to 1989, Reich worked as a research assistant and academic advisor at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen and the University of Bamberg. In 1983 he worked at the Karlsruhe Research Center as part of the DFG research project "Material Issues in Nuclear Fuel Disposal".

Reich began working in the institutional share business in 1990 at the Hamburg private bank MM Warburg , where in 1993 he took over the management of the “Quantitative Analysis / Technology / Support” group.
