Johannes Schmidt (rower)

Johannes Schmidt (born August 9, 1982 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German para rower .

Schmidt first competed in para rowing in 2011 and finished 12th at the World Championships in Bled . In the following year he narrowly missed the qualification in the qualifying regatta for the Summer Paralympics in London with 3rd place, but was nominated by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the World Rowing Federation (FISA) and represented Germany in one . At the Summer Paralympics 2012 in London , Schmidt was fifth in the B final and finished eleventh overall.

After that he took part in the World Championships annually until 2015, but did not reach the final. In 2013 and 2014 he won the B-final and finished seventh, in 2015 he reached 10th place. After missing the athletic qualification for the 2016 Summer Paralympics at the decisive qualification regatta in April 2016, Schmidt was nominated again in August 2016, just a month before the Paralympics. The background in this case was the exclusion of all Russian athletes from the Paralympics. The Russian one-oarer Alexei Tschuwaschew was affected, and Schmidt moved up to his launch site.
