Johannes Tcholakian

Johannes Tcholakian , also Hovhannes J. Tcholakian , (born April 12, 1919 in Istanbul , Turkey ; † September 16, 2016 ) was Archbishop of the Istanbul Archeparch of the Armenian Catholic Church in Turkey.

Life

John Tcholakian received on 25 April 1943, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on May 23, 1966 (officially confirmed on January 16, 1967) Archbishop of Istanbul of the Armenian Catholic Church in Turkey. The episcopal ordination donated him on March 5, 1967 Grégoire-Pierre XV. Cardinal Agagianian , Patriarch of Cilicia of the Armenian Catholic Church and Cardinal Curia of the Roman Church ; Co- consecrators were Guregh Hovhannes Zohrabian , Auxiliary Bishop in Cilicia, and Bishop Garabed Amadouni , Apostolic Exarch for the Armenians in France.

On March 21, 2015, the Patriarch of Cilicia accepted his age-related resignation after approval by the Synod of Bishops of the Patriarchate.
