history
The Patriarchate of Cilicia was founded in 1740/1742 with the election and the Roman confirmation of Archbishop Abraham Ardzivian of Aleppo as the Armenian Patriarch ( Catholicos ) of Sis in Cilicia . The seat of the Armenian Catholic Patriarchs of Cilicia was Bzommar in Lebanon. Their jurisdiction was limited to the territory of the historic Catholic of Cilicia . It specifically excluded the Armenians in Europe, especially the important community in Constantinople (Istanbul).
In 1867 the Patriarchate was united with the Armenian Catholic Archdiocese of Constantinople to form the "Patriarchate of Cilicia of the Armenians". It was initially located in Constantinople until 1928.
