John VII (Pope)
John VII (* in the 7th century in Rossano , Calabria ; † October 18, 707 in Rome ) was Pope from 705 until his death . He was elected on March 1, 705.
John was of Greek descent and was born in Rossano to a certain Plato and Blatta; his father held the post of imperial administrator on the Palatine .
Fearing Emperor Justinian II , he indirectly recognized the resolutions of the Trullan Synod of 691. He maintained good relations with the Lombards . In Rome he had several churches built and restored. He had the church of Santa Maria Antiqua in the Roman Forum decorated with a marble ambo (documented by inscriptions) and frescoes , which are of great art historical importance because of their quality .
He died in Rome on October 18, 707.
