Johannes Wechtlin
Johannes Wechtlin (* around 1485 in Strasbourg ; † unknown) was a German painter and wood cutter .
Wechtlin became a citizen in Strasbourg in 1514 and worked there until around 1520. Nothing of his paintings has survived. His artistic importance lies in Clairobscur - or colored woodcuts, the technique of which he has developed the most in Germany. His style is influenced by Albrecht Dürer and Hans Baldung . Wechtlin also produced woodcuts for Hans von Gersdorff's field book of wound medicine , published in 1517 .
The master signed some of his works with two crossed bars accompanied by the initials “Io. V. "
