Johannes Weiß (sociologist)

Johannes Weiß (born July 3, 1941 in Hellenthal ) is a German sociologist and professor of sociological theory , social philosophy and cultural sociology at the University of Kassel .

Weiss graduated from the University of Cologne in 1969 with an MA in sociology , where he was awarded a Dr. phil. received his doctorate . He completed his habilitation in 1975 at the University of Duisburg .

From 1969, Weiß worked as a research assistant and from 1977 as an adjunct professor of sociology at the PH, then University of Duisburg, before becoming a full professor at the University of Kassel in 1981. From 1991 to 1993 he was the founding director of the Institute for Cultural Studies at the University of Leipzig and in 1993 was honored with the Caspar Borner Medal for services to the renewal of the University of Leipzig. In addition, Weiß is an associated visiting scholar at the Max Weber College at the University of Erfurt .
