Johannes Wichern (born September 23, 1845 in the Rauhen Haus in Horn near Hamburg , † September 14, 1914 in Bad Kösen ) was a Protestant clergyman and director of the Rauhen Haus.

Life

Johannes Wichern studied theology in Halle (Saale) , Tübingen and Berlin , for some time headed the German school on the Capitol in Rome , became cathedral helper in Berlin and on April 1, 1873, succeeded his father, Johann Hinrich Wichern , director of the Rauhen Haus .

The information courses for theologians on the various areas of the Inner Mission , which he first directed in 1886, became permanent institutions in most of the Prussian provinces. In the same year he founded the “Cooperative of Voluntary Nurses in War” on behalf of the Central Committee of the German Red Cross Associations.

When he had to give up the management of the Rauhe Haus for health reasons, he settled in Bad Kösen , where he particularly campaigned for the deaconess station founded in 1892.
