John of Dukla
Johannes von Dukla (Polish Jan z Dukli , * 1414 in Dukla , Poland , † September 29, 1484 in Lemberg , then Poland, now Ukraine) was a Polish religious and priest. He is a saint in the Catholic Church and is especially venerated in Poland.
Johannes became a member of the Franciscan order around 1437 and was active as head of several religious convents in Krosno and Lemberg. In 1463 he finally joined the more ascetic branch of the Saint Bernard order . John worked as a well-known and popular preacher and soul guide among the people. He also supposedly had the gift of healing the sick. Johannes went blind in the last years of his life. Today his bones rest in Dukla. To this day, Johannes is one of the most famous and venerated churchmen in Poland. July 8th is his feast day there, and September 29th in general.
Johannes von Dukla was born in 1735 by Pope Clement XII. Beatified and canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1997 .
