history

On August 2, 1976 , what was then the old town school in the city center of Meppen became a free Catholic school sponsored by the Osnabrück diocese. From the beginning it was run as a secondary and secondary school.

The orientation level was added in the 1976/77 school year . Initially, the Johannesschule Meppen was housed in the buildings of the former old town school and in the adjacent Konvikt . In 1983 the Johannesschule moved to its current location at Nagelshof after the lyceum located there had been merged with the Marist grammar school to form today's grammar school Marianum.

The Johannesschule Meppen is a state-recognized substitute school and registration school for all pupils from the city of Meppen and other surrounding areas. In the 32 years of its existence, the school has developed into a secondary and secondary school that has been very well recognized by the population. Mission statement

As a Catholic school, its pedagogy is based on the Christian image of man . It says that man, as God's creature, is a co-creator of the world and is therefore responsible for his own life, that of his fellow men and for creation .

The namesake of the Johannesschule, Pope John XXIII, adds that people are not on earth to keep a museum, but to tend a garden that is full of flourishing life and determines a bright future.

With this in mind, the Johannesschule strives to be a garden full of life .

The combination of these two basic ideas - responsible participation in shaping the world and maintaining the garden full of life - results in the central educational mandate of the school, the main objective: imparting life knowledge .

Knowledge of life means here knowledge, skills, abilities and skills that serve life.

The pupils learn to choose from the abundance of current and future knowledge that will help them to master their lives independently and with respect for their fellow men and for God. Therefore, the mission statement requires the imparting of competencies, which also include attitude, attitude and readiness in order to be able to cope with changing learning and life situations individually.

This connection needs to be illustrated in the background on the school and lesson structure at the Johannesschule.
