Church tower of the Johanniskirche

The Johanniskirche (seldom also Sankt-Johannis-Kirche ) is the largest church in the city of Lauf an der Pegnitz . The Protestant parish church stands at the western end of the market square and is located on the site of a chapel built in 1275. After the St. Leonhard Hospital Church was destroyed, it became a Protestant parish church. The current structure was built between 1350 and 1370.

The sculptor Balthasar Götz from Lauf created the altar with eight interchangeable pictures in the second half of the 17th century . The organ is a work by Hoffmann Orgelbau from 1990 with 24 stops on two manuals and a pedal using a Baroque main work prospectus from 1667 by Christoph Rappold and a positive prospectus from 1700 by Johann Adam Brandenstein .

On the church tower is the two-storey apartment of the city tower man , who served as a fire watchman and city musician from there with his journeymen until 1931. There is another room above the apartment, but no reliable information is available about its use.

In addition to the Sunday services, the church also hosts weddings, devotions and concerts. Special regular events are on the one hand the fasting sermons during Lent and on the other hand the organ music at market time in summer.
