John Alexander Magee

John Alexander Magee (born October 14, 1827 in Landisburg , Perry County , Pennsylvania , †  November 18, 1903 in New Bloomfield , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Magee attended his home public schools and the New Bloomfield Academy . Then he worked in the printing trade. For several years he edited the Perry County Democrat newspaper. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1863 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives . In the years 1868, 1876 and 1896 he took part as a delegate to the respective Democratic National Conventions .

In the congressional elections of 1872 Magee was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 15th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Richard Jacobs Haldeman on March 4, 1873 . Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1874, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1875 .

After serving in the US House of Representatives, John Magee resumed his previous activities. He died in New Bloomfield on November 18, 1903.
