John Alexander Morrison
John Alexander Morrison (born January 31, 1814 in Colerain , Lancaster County , Pennsylvania , † July 25, 1904 in Cochranville , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1851 and 1853 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
John Morrison attended public schools in his home country and then studied medicine at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia . After his admission as a doctor in 1837, he began to practice this profession in Cochranville. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1850 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Jesse Column Dickey on March 4, 1851 . Until March 3, 1853 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war .
Between 1853 and 1861, Morrison was an inspector and appraiser for pharmaceuticals imports in the Port of Philadelphia. After that he worked as a doctor again. He was also active in agriculture and trade. John Morrison died on July 25, 1904 in Cochranville at the age of 90.
